Annotation:
During WWII, a colored woman leaves her family to find work in a nearby town.  Back home, her family sits and waits for new of their mother and waits for her to come home again.

Personal Reaction:
This story tells of one family who experienced the same thing that many families went through during WWII.  Many men went off to war, leaving jobs open for minorities.  I found it interesting that this book was written from the view point of the family that was left at home as opposed to the view point of the person who went off to work.  I had read many books before about the family member who went to find work.  This book provides another example of how strong family ties help you to deal with the most difficult of situations.

Curricular Connection: High School history-WWII
