This is the story of a woman who helped bring victory for African American baseball players. Effa Manley helped African American baseball players be treated equally. She made sure they were paid and honored for their talents.
Personal Reaction:
Prior to reading this book, I had not heard of Effa Manley. I never thought that it was a woman who successfully fought for equal rights for African American baseball players. Effa was a very determined woman to overcome the predjudice against women and African Americans similtaniously. Not only did this book tell of her success, but it also educated me about famous baseball players, and taught me a few basic things about baseball as well. I highly recommend this book for all readers, whether or not they like baseball.
