Annotation:
This book tells the story of Francisco Menendez, who helped create the first free black community in America.  This community was founded prior to the revolutionary war, and a is a large part of African American history.

Personal Reaction:
This book was very educational.  I had never known that there was a free black community that existed long before America was fully formed.  This book was well researched, and features lots of information about early colonial America, as well as early African American history.  The book had a massive amount of words, but was written in a much more interesting way than the average textbook.
