Subject-History


Objectives and Goals
  • To become familiar with the declaration of independence

Anticipatory Set:
  • Remind students that the illustrations are dramatizations of what actually happened, and that they are intended to add some humor to the situation
Direct Instruction:
  • If possible, provide each student with a copy of the book, or at least enough for students to share.  Read the actual declaration of independence out loud while they follow along in the illustrated version.
Guided Practice:
  • Discuss the meaning of different parts of the document
Closure:
  • Explain homework
Independent Practice:
  • Select one paragraph of the document to illustrate on your own.  Make sure the illustration accurately explains the passage
Required Materials and Equipment:
  • N/A
Assessment and Follow-Up:
  • If they receive a passing grade on the assignment, they have demonstrated an understanding of the document.
